Duty Free Tobacco Guide

Tobacco Pouch Size - France is usually 40g and Belgium is usually 50g (25% bigger) and it is worth checking size when comparing French and Belgian prices for comparison.

Payment by Card - Credit card companies are becoming increasingly cautious when unusual purchases are made especially overseas, so be sure you know their contact number if you have any problems at the till, a quick call will soon see your purchase authorised.

Payment by Cash - The tobacco shops often offer very favourable exchange rates to UK sterling, often several % better than bureaus etc but normally only take payment in notes, (change given in local currency).

Opening Hours - Most Belgium tobacco shops are closed between 10pm and 6am nightly, even the ones that advertise as being 24 hours!

Fakes - Avoid any roadside sellers as there is a chance the tobacco or cigarettes are fake, an obvious sign of fakes is lack of tar information on packaging, or no carton / bulk packaging.
