MILTONS CHOICE

Miltons Choice is a runner in the 3.50pm at Carlisle.  He is number 1 and drawn 15, which is classed as an advantage.  We have booked Paul Cosgrave to ride who is a top Northern jockey and very much in form at present.  Miltons Choice should be around 20/1 which is good value each way with 4 places.  Main dangers The Grey One from our own yard but he has a bad draw and Charming Princess could be good value as an outsider at 50/1.

.........................................................

COMPTON FLYER

Compton Flyer is a runner in the 4.20pm at Carlisle.  He is number 9 and drawn 7 of 10 runners which again is a good draw.  The plan will be to jump him out and let him lead all the way, hopefully to the line!  We have booked Tony Hamilton also an inform jockey and we will see what happens.  He should be around 14/1 and we advise small loyalty bets ONLY. His main dangers are Hypnosis and of the outsiders Newkeylets should be watched.

***RACE REPORT MILTONS CHOICE.

Miltons Choice looked fantastic before his race and behaved perfectly.  He was put in the stalls very early and with 17 horses to load, this took quite a long time.  He missed the break and for the first two furlongs was playing "Catch up", his jockey then got him travelling well but then two furlongs out got trapped on the rail with a wall of horses in front of him, chance gone and eased him home.  The jockey reported that the ground was no problem for MC and that he has plenty of ability.

June 6th

Miltons Choice is fine this morning.  Milton is going to assess Mc through the stalls this week at home and Milt feels it maybe that MC is too relaxed at present and needs wakening up a bit on race days.  Mc's first race this year as we know was fantastic, he was geed up and full of adrenalin and we are going to try and get this feeling back before his next race.   2 possible entries that Milton is now working towards are Nottingham 16th June - 6 furlongs 46-65 and Lingfield 17th June - 6 furlongs 46-65.

***RACE REPORT COMPTON FLYER

As you are all aware, Compton jumped out well, ran for 3 furlongs and then dropped himself out.  It is very frustrating as he has shown plenty of ability at home.

After lengthy discussions with Milton we have decided that the next plan with Comp is to change his training routine aiming him at longer distances and then hurdling late on in the year.  He will be schooled over small hurdles alongside some of Milton's jumpers and this will hopefully give him something to concentrate on and enjoy.  To get him to relax, his training routine will be fun.  We will keep you updated in the coming weeks on his progress. Milton has experienced horses like Compton who have shown the ability at home but "Lose" it when they get to the track and he has had fantastic results when he has retrained them for a future under National Hunt rules.

PRE RACE REPORT OH BOY FRIDAY 9TH JUNE

Oh Boy is a runner on Friday 9th June in the 3.10pm race at Brighton.  Chris Catlin is booked to ride.  This is a class 5 race and Oh Boy is drawn 3 of 11 runners.  He should be around an 8/1 chance and advise small each way bets only.  The main danger is Franksalot but on times run at Brighton there isn't much between them.  Border Artist is better off at the weights (7lbs) than Oh Boy when they met last time so would also class him as a danger. The plan is to jump out, let him bowl along in front and hopefully get to the finishing post as quickly as he can!  Full race reports and photo's will be put up on this page on Saturday 10th June.

RACE REPORT OH BOY.

After a long five and a half hour journey, Oh Boy and his three racing companions arrived at a very hot, sunny slightly breezy Brighton.  The accident on the M25 meant that the horse box had to divert through the country roads.  It really was against the clock but the stewards at the racecourse were very helpful and understanding and allowed us to declare the horses to run even though we weren't sure at that time whether they would make it in time.  They agreed that if the horses didn't get to the course on time, that under the circumstances Milton would not be fined.

Oh Boy was nice and calm and looked superb and was perfect to saddle up.  Chris Catlin said before the race that he really likes Oh Boy as he his honest and genuine and tries his heart out.  Chris jumped him out and Oh Boy lead to the 6 furlong pole but had no extra in the final furlong but didn't give up.  It looked like he carried his head a little awkwardly in the final furlong and Chris confirmed that the ground today was too firm for Oh Boy.  It was a very fast time (0.61 seconds faster than standard) and Oh Boy ran creditably to finish 5th, only beaten 3 lengths.  Oh Boy arrived home at 10.45pm after a five and a half hour journey back to Chepstow and is fine. I will pop down the yard in the morning to make sure he is ok.

Brendan Powell remarked to me at 2pm that he hoped that our horse box didn't arrive at the course in time!!!  (I won't reveal my remark back!!).  He was obviously frightened of his horse Border Artist taking on our OH BOY!

PRE-RACE REPORT HARRISONS FLYER RUNS 3.10PM SPRINT AT MUSSLEBURGH SATURDAY 10TH JUNE.

Harry is No.1 of 12 runners and has a super draw in 2 with Greg Fairley riding who won on him at York last year.  Draw 2 will enable Greg to jump him out, sit behind the leaders and then pull him out to produce his run a furlong from home.  This is how Harry loves to win his races.  Have spoke to Mussleburgh twice today and they have kept the course watered day and night, this is to ensure that the ground remains good to firm.  Harry has won 6 races on good and good to soft ground including once at Southwell on the all weather but did finish 2nd last year at Haydock on good to firm and finished a creditable 5th at Chester to Foley Millenium on good to firm ground in which Bluebok also ran in.  There wouldn't be much between them if you take that run into account but Bluebok will be at a disadvantage this time drawn 12.  He will be around 12-1 and let us hope that Harry runs well and that he comes home safe and sound.

Friday 11pm : Spoke to Milton and Harrisons Flyer has arrived at Mussleburgh at 10.15pm and is happily tucked up in bed!

REPORT FROM THE COURSE SATURDAY 10TH JUNE 3.25PM

A quick report from shareholders at the track. The draw 2 turned out to be a disadvantage for Harry as he got stuck on the rails, got bumped twice and the ground possibly dried up to be too fast for him. He is fine and hardly blowing and was full of himself in the paddock! Just watched the replay and the horses drawn higher than Harry bunched towards the inside squashing Harry with one horse on the rails squashing him the other way. Thankfully Greg did not pick the whip up to Harry at any time and rode him home hands and heels.
His stable mate, Bluebok won, who was drawn 12 and he came with a lovely run on the outside, so his outside bad draw became the "Peach" draw! 2nd horse drawn 7 and 3rd horse was drawn 11! That's racing.
I will be speaking to Milton after racing and will report more later.

7.30PM SATURDAY

Milton is on his 9 hour journey back to Chepstow with Harry who is fine.  Milton's comments were the same as above but he did also say that the ground was very firm.  Greg felt that Harrisons Flyer hated being squeezed in by horses either side and that next time he will need to try and get more space for him in the race.  It was just unfortunate how the race unfolded.  Milton did report that Harrisons Flyer looked superb and Greg also reported that he felt brilliant, is fit and ready to do the business when things fall right.  We will obviously see how Harry is in the morning and await going reports for Sandown and Salisbury next week.

PRE-RACE REPORT ULSHAW RUNS SUNDAY 11TH JUNE 3.40PM BATH

Ulshaw is No.6, drawn 4 of 7 runners over a mile and a half.  Chris Catlin is riding as he has ridden Ulshaw before including when he was 2nd at Bath in May last year.  Ulshaw has run well on good to firm ground and one of his best runs last year was in April when he won at Brighton beating Chocolate Boy.  The main danger could be Ground Patrol who is lightly raced for a five year old and is trained by Gary Moore and with his son Ryan on board a combination to be wary of.  The plan will be to jump off and sit not too far off the pace (Won't have much chance of cover with only 7 runners) and then let Ulshaw try and make his move to the front in the last two furlongs.  He should be around 8/1.

REPORT ULSHAW'S RACE SUNDAY 11TH JUNE

A lovely, hot and sunny day at Bath with over 24 shareholders turning up to support Ulshaw and Zimbali.  Ulshaw was very relaxed today and was well behaved when we saddled him up (Apart from the odd little kick with his back legs, normal for him to do this!).  Sadie who looks after him at home had done a fantastic job in and Ulshaw won best turned out and £50.00 for the staff.  Considering the heat today, he hardly sweated before the race and took everything in his stride.  Once in the stalls Ulshaw wanted to get on with the job doing his famous nodding act!!  He jumped out well and Chris Catlin settled in 5th place trying to sit on the rails.  The pace slowed down after halfway (Which didn't help) and George was 6th with a furlong to go but ran on very strongly to finish a creditable 4th.  He was beaten 6 and a quarter lengths and Chris reported he was in good form but would appreciate easier going.  It was very firm today and on easier ground the horses would have come back to him.

Ulshaw looked really pleased with himself in the winners enclosure and so did all our happy shareholders.   Entries for his next race will be posted as soon as available.

PRE-RACE REPORT ZIMBALI RUNS SUNDAY 11TH JUNE 5.10PM BATH

Zimbali is No.10 and drawn 6 of 14 runners over 5 and a half furlongs at Bath.  Chris Catlin is riding and he gets on well with Bali.  She is going to be very excited to be back at the races and this is a very competitive sprint.  Bali likes to be up with the leaders, she is tough as old boots but may just need the run.  The main dangers could be any of Milton's other 3 runners with Convince being the main danger as he had cracking form last year.  Zimbali should be around 20/1, so small each way loyalty bets only.

REPORT ZIMBALI'S RACE SUNDAY 11TH JUNE

Zimbali looked fantastic today and also looked happy to be back at the races.  She was perfect to saddle up and stayed nice and relaxed until  Chris Catlin got on her in the parade ring she pranced around eager to get on with her job!  She jumped out of the stalls well  and chased up with the leaders for the first 3 furlongs, then Chris started riding her hands and heels two furlongs from home and she only weakened out of contention in the last furlong ,eased down to finish 10th beaten only by 7 lengths.
Chris reported she is still a game little filly but she did need the run today and to keep her at 5 furlongs (Today was 5 and a half), he would love to ride her again and that she would come on for the run.  He didn't knock her around at all and said she handled the ground really well, considering how firm it was but would probably appreciate slight ease in the ground.  This just goes to show what a real versatile filly she is as she can handle any type of going.  She will not run at Beverley on Wednesday 14th June as this race will come too soon for her.  We will update further entries as they come in.

HARRISONS FLYER FRIDAY 16TH JUNE SANDOWN 2.55PM

PRE-RACE REPORT

"Harry" is a runner in the 2.55pm at Sandown.  He is number 2 and drawn 6 of 10 runners.  Richard Quinn is riding. The ground is good going at Sandown (Thursday 15th) and we are hoping that it stays that way.  Of the runners Matsunosuke could be a danger if the ground dries up as so could Malarpropism.  Chinalea and Salviati are both better off at the weights than Harry when he won at York in October 2005 but as we are all aware Harry's two runs this year have both been very unlucky, wasn't given a hard time on either occasion and will still be feeling fresh.  The instructions will be for Richard to jump him out and track the leaders away from the far rail, then make his move a furlong out down the centre of the track towards the stands side.  He should be around 8/1 and advise each way bets.

Milton has 14 runners tomorrow, 8 at Chepstow, 1 at Nottingham, 2 at Sandown and 3 at York.

The full race report will be put up on this page on Saturday 17th June as I will not be back until late on Friday evening after Chepstow races.  Please contact me on the mobile number above for further details.  Fran will update the forum with reference to Harry and Spirit Rising.

...........................................................

RACE REPORT HARRISONS FLYER

After watching the replay and discussing the race with Milton, the report is as follows:

Richard Quinn commented in the paddock how well Harry looked, he was on his toes and at Sandown the temperature reached 27 degrees.  He jumped out well but ended up only 2 of the rail, which wasn't ideal and three furlongs out Richard found a bit of space for Harry 3 off the rail but two and a half furlongs out Endless Summer on his outside and Divine Spirit on his inside sandwiched Harry (The Racing Post reports he was hampered) and was checked slightly then drifted across towards the stands rail.  Once again an unlucky run for Harry who only had two reminders with the whip from Richard and in the end was only beaten 3 lengths without being knocked around!

Richard reported that two furlongs out he was really confident and felt he had a large amount of horse under him but when asking Harry for his run he felt Harry wasn't letting himself down on the ground.  He said he feels in really good shape and when we get some ease in the ground we will really see what Harry has to offer.

A great day out enjoyed by our shareholders and we will await Salisbury ground confirmation on Saturday morning before deciding whether to run on Sunday.

PRE-RACE REPORT SPIRIT RISING SATURDAY 17TH JUNE 2.45PM BATH

Spirit Rising is drawn 5 of 11 runners and is number 5, he is ridden by Greg Fairley who claims 5!  Of the runners the obvious dangers will be Lipocco and Whipcord.  This is Spirit's 3rd run and after this we will be given a rating.  Greg's instructions will be to jump out, get a toe off the leaders and then if Greg feels he is in with a chance of a place then to hard ride to the line.  The ground is firm and Greg will be told that if Spirit is not handling it, then not to give him a hard time.  We will have approximately 24 connections supporting Spirit tomorrow and the race report will follow once we are home.  We advise small each way loyalty bets only, guide price 50/1.

...................................................................

RACE REPORT SPIRIT RISING

A very hot day at Bath and a lovely afternoon out enjoyed by all connections.  Spirit looked superb, shiny coat, beautifully turned out and he was perfect to saddle up, standing quietly with impeccable manners.  He started to prance around when he got in the main parade ring and posed for some beautiful photo's as you will see below.  He was the tallest horse again in the paddock and took a nice, keen hold when Greg took him down to the start.  He jumped out reasonably well (Racing Post report, slowly into stride) but got bumped and squashed a couple of times in the first furlong and then Greg settled him in 8th place.  Spirit was finding it hard to handle the ground and was changing legs looking uncomfortable with the FIRM going.  Greg gave him only 2 smacks with the whip which he responded to and then Greg let him come home safely.  After the race Greg reported that he really did like Milo, he said that when he was on the bridle he travelled very nicely, was still very green and still weak. He is very tall for a two year old and he thinks after another couple of runs he will be ready and strong enough to hold his own in nurseries as the experiences will bring him on.  He also reported that Spirit has a very high knee action which does mean he needs good ground or softer.  He has asked to ride Spirit in his future races.  Whilst Spirit was on his way to the start a trainer (Will not name) approached me and was asking about our Spirit.  He told me he thought he looked the pick of the paddock and that we would have a super 3 year old to look forward to!
